About SJR-PHOTOGRAPHY, Steve Rowe
I am originally from Hartland, North Devon but now live in Nottingham. I settled here after leaving the Royal Air Force back in 1995.
I have always had a fascination and a love for photography but didn't actually buy my first SLR camera until about 7 years ago. I wish I could have bought one a lot earlier than then! At the moment i use Nikon D3 & D50 along with Nikon & Sigma lenses. I do use Photoshop but, I try not to over use it if i can help it
I am a huge fan of all music genre's and cannot think of anything more enjoyable than attending a gig/concert or live music event and being able to take photographs in order to capture the atmosphere and the moment of enjoyment for all! I still manage to enjoy the music even if I'm jostling for position to get a particular shot with other fellow photographers or members of the crowd. I can still hear the music and that's what matters.
I have been lucky enough to have been able to shoot some great gigs and concerts over the past few years. I have had my images published on several musicians and bands websites both in the UK and abroad. I am wanting to make this next year an even more successful year for me on the music side. I am now working with several venues, musicians and bands from the Nottingham area in order to assist in the promotion of the musical talents in the area. I can usually be found near the stage at one of the many music venues in Nottingham, happily shooting away at whoever is performing on stage.
My influences are numerous but, here is a list of those that are at the forefront of my mind when i am behind the camera. Mick Rock, Annie Leibovitz, Joel Meyerowitz, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Andy Rouse, Joe Cornish, Stephen Ring, David Clapp, Steve Gosling, Charlie Waite and not forgetting my very good friend Bob Seymour (Hello Seymour!) It was Bob that encouraged me take the plunge and buy my first camera. My biggest influences have got to be my wife Metra, who supports me in every way she can and, my daughter Bethany, who now sadly lives in New Zealand but still manages to encourage me as much as she always did, without knowing it! xxxx
Unfortunately at this time, I still have to hold down a day job. I am hoping to change that within the next 12 months.
