About Steve Rowe @ SJR-PHOTOGRAPHY
Originally from Hartland, North Devon but now living in the heart of Nottingham, where I've settled since leaving the Royal Air Force Police in 1995. I've always had a love for and a fascination with photography but didn't actually buy my first camera until about 10 years ago. Looking back, I really wish that I'd realised my dream sooner.
My first step into photography was through music and as a fan of just about all genres and I'd spent countless nights travelling to gigs across the UK and Europe. Whilst there, I was amazed by the way in which photographers worked; squeezing into the photo pit or jostling with the crowd at some of the venues - there was always desire to join them. Over the years, I discovered that capturing the atmosphere of events was so exciting and that I got such a rush when shooting the performers interactions through the lens. As a result, I'd quickly set mind on being able to join up my passion for music with my love of photography as soon as possible.
Through college I honed my craft and was introduced to studio photography which I found very enjoyable and this led me onto shooting portraiture and promotional images in the music world. I was also encouraged to enhance my skills with scapes. Growing up on the North Devon coast meant that I'd spent many happy hours and a great deal of my youth outdoors, so I re-kindled my love of the coast and revived memories of my youth by taking time out to capture landscapes, seascapes and abstracts on or around the beaches and coastline. This was to become one of my great learning experiences as a couple of years later, I spent several weeks travelling around New Zealand with family and as a result of the time spent focusing on scapes, I captured some amazing shots of the world's most scenic locations.
My influences are numerous but, those at the forefront of my mind when I am behind the camera are...Joel Meyerowitz, Andy Rouse, Joe Cornish, Clifford Ross, Stephen Ring, Charlie Waiteand not forgetting my very good friendBob Seymour(after all, it was Bob that encouraged me to buy my first camera). My biggest supporters are those closest to me, my family, they inspire me to be the best that I can be.
I currently use Nikon D3 and my trusty old faithful D50, with Nikon and Sigma lenses. I have a complete portable studio and the use of a city centre fully equipped studio as and when required, 24 hours a day. My photography style and environment is always friendly, relaxed to the point of laid back, but above all, fun!
